Dr Derrick Coetzee

Dr Derrick is a true Generalist, specialising in all fields of General Practice.
His specific interests lie in Chronic Disease Management and Procedural work, such as skin cancer excisions and flaps.
Dr Sally Wu
MBCHB, FRACGP
Dr Sally is a passionate advocate for her patient’s health, including social and emotional wellbeing and firmly believes that “prevention is better than cure”.
Family Planning Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine.
Dr Alexandra Ashcroft
MBBS, BSc
Dr Alex enjoys the spectrum of general practice. Her interests including Acute and General Medicine, Chronic Disease Management, Dermatology, Preventative Care and Lifestyle Management. She is qualified in the siting and removal of Implanons. Dr Alex graduated from Kings College London in 2015 with a Batchelor of Science in Physiology and Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery. In her junior years she completed rotations in cardiology, urology, geriatrics, emergency medicine and gastroenterology. In 2018, she came to Cairns for a “short” stint in the hospital, but found Australia too good to leave. Alex worked in critical care rotations and as an ICU doctor. Her experience with people suffering the end result of chronic disease inspired her pursuit of general practice and she now strives to prevent the issues which she’s witnessed causing death and disability. Now free of night shifts, Alex enjoys spending time with her husband and their four-legged companion, Louis, as well as hiking, fitness and yoga.
Dr Alice Tai
MBBS
Dr Alice Tai will be joining Southcare Medical Centre from July 2025. Alice completed her Batchelor of Science degree in Canada before moving to Australia in 2017. She graduated from the University if Queensland in 2020 and worked at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for the next 3 years. Her specialties include Acute Medicine, Rehabilitation, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Alice moved to Cairns in 2023, undertaking a Certificate in Women’s Health while working at Birds of Paradise. She began her Registrar training in July 2024. In her spare time Alice enjoys time with her cockatiels and loves trying new recipes. She is looking forward to experiencing the natural wonders of the region.
Dr Stuart Harris
MBBS
Dr Stuart enjoys the breadth of general practice and takes a “prevention is better than a cure” approach. He graduated from James Cook University’s MBBS program in 2016, and gained valuable hospital experience in Cairns, Innisfail and Mackay across anaesthetic, rural and emergency medicine rotations.
Dr Eric Zaw

Dr Eric was born and raised in Myanmar (Burma). He completed his studies and graduated in 2017 before relocating to Australia in 2020. Eric completed his fellowship of GP training in 2024 and joined Southcare Medical Centre soon after. Eric enjoys all aspects of general practice with special interests in Child Health, Chronic Disease Management, Contraceptive Devices, General Medicine, Travel Advice and Minor Skin Procedures.
