About us - Southcare Medical Center
Southcare Medical Centre is a grassroots General Practice that has been serving the Cairns community since the 1980s. Our rich history is a testament to the fact that our doctors, nurses and reception staff excel at putting patients first. Presently, many GP clinics are owned by corporate entities. Here at Southcare, we are owned and run by Dr Derrick and Dr Michelle who are both experienced GPs. We offer a wide range of services to support your health. Our doctors have a wide range of expertise across all areas of general practice assisted by a team of caring nurses and reception staff. We are an AGPAL accredited practice. Additionally, we are accredited with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) for registrar training.
What is Accreditation?
Practice accreditation is independent recognition that a practice meets the requirements of governing industry standards. These are set by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).
Southcare Medical Centre, 12 Toogood Road, is an accredited practice, meeting the industry benchmark, provide patient safety and commitment to continuous quality improvements – via systems, processes, policies, culture, risk management and staff training.
This General Practice is AGPAL accredited – What Does This Mean?
Being accredited means that our general practice is committed to a comprehensive program which involves:
- Engaging our whole practice team to review our practice’s systems and processes
- Opening our practice doors to allow a team of independent surveyors to assess how our practice operates
- Assessment of our practice, and achievement of the nationally recognised Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Standards for general practices, that focus on health care quality and patient safety.
As a member of the community you may be surprised to learn that general practice accreditation is a voluntary process – which means not all practices undergo an independent on-site assessment on a regular basis.
